Engage Your Readers with Rich Media, Internal Links, and a Strong CTA


Long-form written content isn't the only way to communicate with your audience. If you want your blog to stand out, engage your audience with rich media like photos, videos, audio, or custom infographics.


Rich media can also be a great way to springboard to other pieces of cluster content under the same pillar.

Video content is particularly worth the effort for a new blog post. Videos keep the user on a page for a certain amount of time, which can help your bounce rate low.


Video is also a popular form of media, as shown by platforms like TikTok and YouTube.


Even better, you can often repurpose blog content for videos, streamlining your content creation process.


But hooking your readers with rich content is only half the battle. If you want to keep them engaged on your site after they're finished reading, you'll need a solid internal linking strategy.


By including links to other pages in each post, you encourage readers to explore your website further, keeping them on your platform longer. This can also help search engines find other relevant authority pages you have to offer.


Here are a few tips for more effective internal links:


Don't use more than five words in your anchor text.


Use your anchor text to provide context for the reader about what they should expect to find.

Use paragraphs and headings


Everybody uses paragraphs, but not everybody uses them well. Don’t start each new sentence on a new line just because it looks nice. Also, try not to make them too lengthy, as each paragraph should have its own idea or subject. Ask yourself what the main idea of each paragraph is. You should be able to summarize that main idea in one sentence. If that’s not possible and you need more sentences to explain the main idea, you simply need to use more paragraphs.

Proper headings also help your readers understand what a specific part of your text is about. If you want people to find their way through your articles, use subheadings to lead them. Subheadings help readers scan your page, and clarify the structure of your articles. They’re not just important for readability, but for SEO as well. That’s why I would also advise using your keyword in some of the subheadings. I do mean some of them, as using your keyword in every heading will make the text clunky and unnatural. This will put people off reading further.

Check Your Word Count


This one is a bit tricky, as there are a million different opinions online as to what the ideal length for a blog post is. Some say 1000 words is best, while others argue that you should write upwards of 2500 words! Excuse us, but we don’t all have the time to make every blog post into a thesis.


Instead, aim to write at least 300 words per post. Any less than that and Google will flag your blog (or web page for that matter) as low word count. This penalty pushes your blog down in the search results, as Google and other search engines prefer longer content. Once you reach 300 words, keep writing until you feel you’ve accomplished your goal and accurately covered the topic. Don’t push yourself to include more information just because you want to hit a certain word count; the content will feel forced and readers pick up on that.


If you hit 150 words and find you don’t have anything else to say on the topic, that’s okay too! Take the content and share it on social media or in your newsletter instead. Always try to repurpose content where you can.

Here are a few simple stylistic steps you can take to make for a more user-friendly mobile experience:


Avoid large chunks of text, which are harder to read on mobile devices

Use headers to organize your text into smaller sections

Avoid displaying content wider than the screen

Space your clickable elements out so that they're easier to engage with on small screens
